It is important for children to take part in PE every week. If they do not have their PE kit then your child will receive a letter home asking you to provide them with white t-shirt, black/blue shorts and PE pumps.

Please remember

* Book bags with home reading book and diary everyday.

* Please read every night for about 10 minutes with your child and complete the reading diary.

* PE kit, this can be left in school and will be sent home half termly to wash.

* Be on time at five to nine.

SATs

Please remember that there is a SATs information meeting on Monday 13th March at 2.30pm where we will talk through what the SATs will look like and how they are delivered. This will be a perfect opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.  We really hope that you can join us. If you are unable to attend please see me so that we can arrange a time where you can get this information as this is an important part of your child's education.

How you can help at home!

Please could we ask that you read with your child on a regular basis. Reading is an important skill and enables children to access all areas of the curriculum.  Children are rewarded with stickers and certificates for reading at least three times a week at home. Your support with this is appreciated.

Here are some websites that the children use regularly in class please feel free to enjoy and share these websites with the children at home.

Our new topic follows our nautical theme from Spring One but instead of pirates we are stranded on a desert island.

We will be using the book 'Lost and found' by Oliver Jeffers to use in our writing. We will be writing facts about penguins and looking at how we can help the penguin find his way home.

Do you know anything about penguins?

We will then move onto the books ‘The Storm Whale’ and ‘The Storm Whale in Winter’ which follows a little boy called Noi who finds a whale stranded on the beach.  We will be using this story to research all about whales and we will be writing a persuasive letter to persuade Noi’s Dad to keep the whale.

For reading we will be using 'Robinson Crusoe' and ‘The Snail and the Whale’.  We will be reading this and writing about how to survive if stranded on an island.  What three things would be useful if you were stranded on an island?  We will be reading for meaning and completing comprehensions to show our understanding of what we have read.

 Wednesday 8th March 2017

Today we went in the hall and carried out some drama for our story 'Lost and Found'.  The children loved being the characters, showing off their feelings, thoughts and emotions.

Today we also looked at 3D shapes and their properties - looking at edges, faces and vertices.  What 3D shapes can you find around your house? One the way to school? In the car?

 Spring 1

Land Ahoy

Pirates attacked Catshill First School during our first week back in 2017 when Year 2 held their Pirates Day.  Year 2 enjoyed dressing up in a variety of costumes who were well-prepared for our piratetastic day.

Towers, Tunnels and Turrets

What an exciting topic.  We enjoyed our visit to Warwick Castle where we found a real knight!

We learnt so much about the different parts of the castle and discovered lots of interesting facts about the Kings and Queens who lived or visited there.

What a busy day it was!

2CB designed and created their own 'coat of arms' to show off the childrens personality and beliefs.  We found out all about the different colours and their meanings.  We then made a 3D version with string and mosaics.

Year 2 started their topic off with a WOW day of DT...they had to design, create and evaluate their own castles which had to have three features of a castle and a moving part.  The classroom was a mess with bits of cardboard, paper, straws and string but the children had a fantastic day!

Year 2 had a lovely afternoon making Material Monsters.  They had the chance to use lots of materials aslong as they could name and describe the properties of each material.

We had a fantastic time recreating the 'Disgusting Sandwich'.  Our sandwich went all around the school.  We then wrote our story up in English.

DURING THIS TOPIC WE WILL BE USING FOOD TO CREATE DELICIOUS DISHES OR POTIONS. IF YOUR CHILD HAS A FOOD ALLERGY THEN PLEASE ALERT US IMMEDIATELY OF THIS.  MANY THANKS.
