Welcome to Year 1

with Mrs Mercer, Mrs Dayus, Mrs Fay,

Mrs Warman, Mrs Wiley and Mrs Partridge

PE is on Tuesday and Wednesday. You will need a t shirt. shorts and pumps that are clearly labelled.

Please read with your child as often as possible. Any books that they enjoy are perfect! We will send home a book linked to their current reading ability with a diary to record in. We will change your child's book when the diary is completed several times and they can earn a certificate for reading regularly at home.

We will send home words each week with our new sounds. If you have read and spelt the words, try putting them into a silly sentence or making your own list of rhyming words. You can also use www.phonicsplay.co.uk to play games using the phonemes we learn at school.

Autumn 2 2017 Splendid Skies

We have discovered lots about the weather and seasons. We labeled the countries on a UK weather map and role played being a weather presenter. We particularly enjoyed wet weatehr paintings where we spllattered watercolour paint and designed our own umbrella.

In English, we have been flying to the moon and planning how to get home again. Oliver Jeffers' books How to Catch a Star and The Way Back Home have really sparked our imaginations. Come in and have a read about where we would take our very own stars.

We are currently writing about Wallace and Gromit's Grand Day Out. It is such a funny story!

In Maths, we are using objects and number lines for addition and subtraction.

Autumn 1 2017 Marvellous Me

The children enjoyed talking about our bodies and using all of their senses. Did you know that there are up to 8000 taste buds on your tongue?

We improved our writing using The Ppaer Dolls by Julia Donaldson and the Large Family books by Jill Murohy.

Our senses walk was exciting, messy and fun!
