Our Aim
The aim of the Early Years Foundation Stage at Catshill First School and Nursery is to develop the unique child by providing care and support in a safe, enriching and engaging learning environment so that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Positive relationships between staff and pupils ensure that children feel secure, whilst a rich and varied learning environment allows children to discover the world around them. We provide opportunities that stretch and challenge each child whilst they remain safe and proud of their achievements. Our continuous and enhanced provision creates a dynamic, inclusive and ambitious learning culture by ensuring the interests and abilities of our children are at the centre of our decision and planning making process.
At Catshill First School and Nursery we believe that children require opportunities to develop independence and self-confidence in an environment where they feel valued, respected and cared for. We develop clear rules that help each child to feel safe. It is recognised that all children develop at different rates and learn in different ways therefore, well planned, open ended experiences are provided in all areas of learning. Purposeful play underpins the delivery of our Early Years curriculum whilst high but realistic expectations encourage each child to strive to achieve their best.

Phonics in Nursery
In Nursery we use a DfE validated synthetic phonics programme called Rocket Phonics. We have a special puppet called Gloria who introduces the children to a new sound each week.
